Monarch Express

The assignment was to design an identity system for a rail system that could run from the Twin Cities to Duluth in Minnesota. It was a group project with myself and two of my classmates; we decided to use the state's butterfly, the monarch, due to its ability to travel long distances. My main role was to come with the logo and business identity. I decided our train system should family friendly but also modern and clean logo and typography. The logo reflects the movement and forward motion of  a high speed train.

This is the primary logo for the Monarch Express. It represents the forward motion of the rail and the clean and friendly environment.

Train Pass Cards
Train Pass Cards

Quick, reusable train passes. They are great for commuters. They can come in many differnent designs but the main one is the 'ribbon' design reflecting the main logo and the forward and back movement of commuters.

1 Day Pass
1 Day Pass

A one day pass for unlimited travel within the one day period. Great for tourists who do not like to stand still for long. The background pattern is meant to be a security pattern and is also the yellow portion of the main logo. The main hierarchy is to  help the user of the ticket know how much it costs, how what kind and what day it is for, all at a glance.

1 Ride Pass
1 Ride Pass

A one ride pass for a one way trip. Good for people who are staying the night or only need to go one way. The background pattern is meant to be a security pattern and is also the blue portion of the main logo. The different colors of the tickets allows easy differentiation of the two tickets.

A basic grey scale of the logo. Simple, clean and easy to reconize.

Final Presentation Book/Style Guide
Final Presentation Book/Style Guide

This is the cover of the final presentation book of our groups work and it also doubles as a style guide. I am the one who put the book together and created the rules for the styles. The book itself is made to resemble a train when spread but still keep the minimal and friendly appearance.
